Kim's Story

Kim Phuc, UNESCO goodwill ambassodor, faith warrior, woman of God, God's humble servant are just some words that come to mind when I think of her. I heard her speaking at the Street Church last night & left being greatly impacted at how much fight a human spirit can endure but more than that I was amazed at how God brought her on a journey of forgiveness. Kim Phuc's body was burnt through and through after the napalm bombs dropped on her & her family, it took 14 months, many operations & years to slowly heal the physical pain she experienced. However, the emotional hardship she was to face years later was a great battle she had to overcome. As i looked around the room i saw that many were in tears as she shared how she forgave the pilot that dropped the napalm bomb on her & her family after a war memorial service in Washington. From this experience, the two things that stick out to me the most was how she learnt to forgive. It brought me back to the word: 1 Peter 4:8 Above all love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sins. She set such a powerful example of forgiveness. If God first forgave me then i can choose to forgive. Love must be the motivation above all no matter what my circumstance is. The second lesson i took away was that if Kim could endure such hardships then the same God that brought her through her lifelong ordeal is the same God that holds my hand.
